Suðsuðvestur var stofnað haustið 2004.
Í
janúar 2005 opnaði Magnús Pálsson
fyrstur sýninguna "Brim".
Suðsuðvestur
er rekið án gróðasjónarmiða
og hugsað sem vettvangur fyrir listamenn sem vinna
að listsköpun á rannsakandi hátt.
Sýningarýmið
er stutt af Menningarsviði Reykjanesbæjar
og Listasafni
Reykjanesbæjar.

Vonast
er til að sýningar í Suðsuðvestur
veiti almenningi tækifæri til að umfaðma

Suðsuðvestur
(SouthbySouthWest) is a artist-run exhibition space
on the main street in Keflavik – a small town
on the Reyjanes peninsula, in close proximity to the
International Airport and former American Base. SSV
was founded in November 2004 and opened in January
2005 with an exhibition on the works of Magnus Palsson.
SSV
is a non-profit venue for explorative and innovative
artists. Artists who want to express their ideas in
various media and evoke questions, thoughts and discussion
about the world and times we live in.
SSV’s
board strives to give the public a chance to embrace
contemporary art – and enjoy. The
board members of SSV are: Inga Þórey
Jóhannsdóttir, Huginn Þór
Arason and Eygló Harðardóttir. SSV
is run with financial aid from the Reykjanesbær
Art Museum – in a house rendered by the Municipality.
The
exhibition space (approx 30 sq m) consists of two
rooms; a bigger, open one with large windows facing
the street, and a smaller one in the back. The board
invites artists and/or projects. The exhibition space
is on the ground-floor, on the top floor is a small
flat that makes it possible for artists to stay while
engaged in exhibitions.
